4 Educational TV Shows You Probably Remember

If you have young children in the house, chances are you also have kids' show theme songs stuck in your head at any given moment. As a parent, you're committed to making sure your kids are consuming media in a healthy way—and also that you're not going nuts. Here's a quick list of a few educational kids' shows that aren't too bad on Mom and Dad's ears.

1. Sesame Street

It's the enduring show that you probably grew up with—and it's still going strong. Sesame Street focuses on ABCs and 123s, making it a great show for a young audience. It's also encouraging to know that Sesame Street began in the 1960s with a noble purpose: to prepare young children for school and "do something good for them."

2. Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

This one is a favorite of 90s kids, and since plenty of 90s kids are parents now, there's a good chance you're humming the catchy theme song now. With a heavy emphasis on geography, this show was based on a wildly popular computer game by the same name. Although it's no longer running on air, you can buy the entire series on DVD by searching your favorite video retailer.

3. Reading Rainbow

Reading Rainbow is an enduring classic, but you don't have to take my word for it. You can check out the show now on Netflix, much to the delight of millennial parents' hearts. LeVar Burton served as host and executive producer of the show that garnered dozens of Emmy Awards.

4. Wishbone

This quirky show follows the adventures of a Jack Russell Terrier, Wishbone, as he daydreams about classic works of literature. It may be a break from the script to cast a Terrier as Romeo, but the show remained surprisingly loyal to the storylines of the famous works it presented.
