To Buy or To Rent-to-Own?
You're moving into a new place! It's so exciting and fun; you're arranging rooms and thinking about your life in this new home. At the same time, you're thinking about how expensive the move was, and all of the things you'll need to make the new house a home. When it comes to appliances, you have two options. To buy, or to rent. Which suits you best? Here are some things to think about.
Renting or Buying Your House?
The first question! Did you just drop the bucks and buy a home, or are you signing a 6 month to a year contract on a rental apartment or house?
If you bought
If you purchased a home, purchasing appliances, big and small, may seem like the best option. However, if money is tight after spending so much on a home, it might be smarter for you to put a small amount into renting appliances that you will gradually work towards owning. This saves you from going further into the debt you likely just acquired from buying a house.
If you are renting
If you're renting, you have to ask yourself, "how long will I be here?" Unfortunately, you can't predict that very well. Your lifestyle could change, your job situation could change, or your landlords could make a change. Renting large appliances (and even small ones) could be the best thing for you if you are unsure of the future. You don't have to worry about putting money into an expensive machine that you might not keep. It could break, need repairs, or if your situation changes, you'll either have to:
- move large appliances with you
- sell them for less than you paid
- pay for storage
This can make the already stressful and expensive ordeal of moving, even more, expensive and stressful.
